Disclaimer: recipe not for ingestion (Duh)
I’m from NC. And no one I know there would make their own house cleaners. Heck, I never thought I would. But I live in Portland now. And people here have chickens lay their own eggs, make their own soap, make their own beer and, yes, their own cleaning products.
My mother-in-law loves a squeaky clean counter top! And bless her heart, she happily cleans mine when she’s in town. But I have a little one at home, so I prefer a clean but chemical-free counter top. I’ve found a few conventional cleaners that are phthalate-free and may not send you to the ER if accidentally ingested, but here are 3 super-tough, grease-cutting, anti-microbial options, should you want to make your own cleaners. Again, NOT for ingesting.
- Bathroom Spray: 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1/2 vodka, 1.5 cups water, lemon and lavender essential oils (10 drops) or the juice from 1 lemon
- Spot Cleaning Bleach Alternative: Hydrogen peroxide. Boom.
- Tile Cleaner: 12/ cup water, 1/2 cup vodka, 10 drops peppermint oil
